It’s only been a month since the IT channel geared up for our inaugural IT Channel Champions Cup, and the excitement hasn’t died down. Our very our Laura Byrne, Channel Marketing Manager at DataSolutions, has given us the full breakdown of the tournament itself. From weather worries, to an outstanding tournament final, it’s one we won’t be forgetting!

“The IT Channel Champions Cup Football Tournament brought together 20 teams from across the IT Channel, all in the name of charity and friendly competition. The event, held on a wet May Day with heavy rain and thunderstorms, miraculously transformed into a scorcher just as the players were arriving, setting the perfect stage for a day of intense action.

Teams from various companies within the industry eagerly geared up, ready to face their competitors on the pitch. The participants showcased a diverse mix of ages, and it was encouraging to witness several mixed-gender teams, highlighting the increasing presence of females in the IT sector.

With a determination to clinch the title of IT Channel Football Champions 2023, the teams battled it out fiercely on the field. Notably, Microsoft had three teams participating, all of which managed to make it into the semi-finals, making them strong contenders for the coveted trophy. It was Phone Pulse and Microsoft who ultimately faced off in an intense head-to-head final match, resulting in a close score of 2-1. In a display of remarkable team spirit and unwavering determination, Phone Pulse emerged victorious for the second consecutive year.

While our own team, DS Dynamos, didn't make it past the group stages, they showcased exceptional dedication and delivered a commendable performance throughout the tournament. The event provided a platform for networking, fostering camaraderie, and showcasing the talent and passion within the IT Channel.

The IT Channel Champions Cup not only served as a thrilling sporting event but also raised a staggering €12,000 for Focus Ireland, a charity dedicated to tackling homelessness and supporting vulnerable individuals. This collective effort by the IT industry demonstrates a commitment to giving back to the community and making a positive impact beyond the realm of technology.

As the teams wrapped up an exhilarating day of competition, they were treated to a delicious BBQ feast and refreshing beverages, replenishing their energy and celebrating their achievements. The trophy and medals were presented to the winning team by Ken Dougan, Enterprise Account Manager for IGEL Technology.

The success of the IT Channel Champions Cup would not have been possible without the invaluable support of our sponsor, IGEL Technology, and TechCentral.ie. Their dedication to the IT community and commitment to driving innovation are commendable.

This tournament, which was put on hold during COVID, now marks the continuation of our tradition, where the IT Channel comes together not only to showcase their skills on the field but also to support charitable causes and build lasting connections. As we reflect on the excitement and camaraderie witnessed during this year's event, we eagerly anticipate the growth and success of the tournament and look forward seeing who will be takiing home the trophy in 2024.“
